Who is eligible to apply for accommodation at RMIT Village?

All students who are currently enrolled in or intending to undertake tertiary education are eligible to apply for accommodation. This includes research assistants and full-time, part-time, undergraduate and postgraduate students.

ACCOMMODATION

What's included in the rate?

The residential fees include:

- Utilities (water, gas and electricity)

- Use of all facilities in the Village: gym, heated swimming pool, bbq, pool and table tennis, student lounge (equipped with Playstation, DVD player, Foxtel and surround sound) and the dedicated study areas.

For more information on additional services not included in the residential fees, please visit the Optional Fees page.

ACCOMMODATION

What nationalities are the residents at RMIT Village from?

In 2011, the demographic of residents at RMIT Village is composed of:

- Domestic students = 53% (75% from Victoria)

- International Students = 47% (45% from North America)

It is estimated that in 2012 the demographics will be similar to 2011.

International students from non-English speaking backgrounds are particularly impressed that over half of RMIT Village’s residents are Australians. This is a great opportunity to practice conversational English skills, study and network with ‘the locals’.

Are pets allowed?

No pets, including fish, may be kept in the Village. Additionally, residents are not permitted to bring animals into any building of the Village. This Rule does not apply to the extent that it restricts the keeping of a guide or hearing dog.

ACCOMMODATION

Are priorities given to particular students?

RMIT Village hosts a diverse range of residents from all over the world and across Australia, and we see this as a true strength of our community. To ensure fairness, we don't give preference to any group over others. Therefore we encourage all applicants to submit the relevant forms as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

ACCOMMODATION

Can I choose my flatmates?

If you'd like to share an apartment with a friend, please specify this on your application form. Given our high demand, we can't guarantee to fulfill all requests, but we'll definitely try our best to accommodate you.

The earlier you and your friend apply, the easier it is for us to assign you to the same apartment.

ACCOMMODATION

Can my partner live with me?

Spouses, partners, boyfriends or girlfriends can apply for accommodation at RMIT Village, as long as they are students at RMIT. Couples will be provided with individual rooms, however you can request to be allocated rooms in the same apartment. One bedroom apartments are single occupancy only.

Given the demand for rooms, we can't guarantee to fulfill all requests but we'll definitely try our best to accommodate you.

ACCOMMODATION

Do you provide a cleaning service?

All residents are responsible for keeping their rooms and apartments clean. A cleaning service can be organised for a fee. Please enquire at Reception.

FACILITIES

Do you provide internet access?

Broadband connectivity is available in every bedroom at the Village. Contact Reception for more information on internet packages (charges apply).

RMIT Village offers an independent living experience in stylish, affordable accommodation, just minutes away from classes! At the same time, we ensure support is available to residents 24 hours a day, and offer a fantastic residential life program to help you live, learn and grow.

This means that you have the freedom to do what you want (within reason of course and subject to the Village Rules) and can enjoy the benefits of living in an exciting student community. You also have peace of mind knowing that there is always someone available to provide assistance.

In short, we offer a fantastic balance between support and independence!

ACCOMMODATION

How long are the residential agreements?

RMIT Village offers 44 and 52 week contracts.

We also offer SAEX packages which are 26 weeks (6 months) for exchange students.

ACCOMMODATION

Is catering available?

RMIT Village doesn't provide catering. However each apartment has a kitchen including a fridge, freezer, cooktop, rangehood and microwave, so feel free to cook up a storm at any time of day (subject to the Village Rules). Kitchen sizes differ depending on apartment types.

If you need some tips, join one of our cooking classes! Check our event calendar to see if one is coming up.

We have a café on site serving gourmet coffee, healthy smoothies, fresh muffins and pastries and a daily choice of delicious specials. If you're in the mood to eat out, we're approximately ten minutes from a diverse selection of restaurants and cafés. Whether you want to pick up some takeaway or have a nice dinner with friends, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
