what to bring

All residents are encouraged to bring or buy their own:

  • Crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils
  • Small kitchen appliances (i.e. kettle, toaster, etc)
  • Bed linen and quilts
  • Towels and bathmats
  • Coat hangers
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Fan
  • Heater*
  • Rubbish bins
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Your personal belongings, toiletries and food

* Heaters must comply with Section 37 of the Village Rules. Only enclosed column heaters with a maximum capacity of 1200W are permitted. 

What am I not allowed to bring?

For your safety and the safety of other residents, there are some items which are not allowed to be brought into RMIT Village:

  • Heaters: open bar, fan, convection and radiant heaters are prohibitted. Only enclosed column heaters with a maximum capacity of 1200W are permitted. 
  • Power boards: we highly discourage residents to use power boards, as it overloads the electrical circuits. Only one power board per resident is allowed, as long as it is fitted with a surge protector. Power boards without a surge protector are prohibitted.
  • Barbeques: bringing your own barbeque is strictly prohibitted at RMIT Village. You may wish to utilise the barbeque provided by the Village, located by the swimming pool on the ground floor. 
  • Smoking devices: smoking in any area other than the designated smoking area is strictly prohibitted. Smoking inside apartments and on balconies as well as the possession of smoking devices (pipes, water pipes, etc) are also prohibitted. The smoking area is located on the Deck on the ground floor.
  • Illicit drugs

What is provided by RMIT Village?

  • FREE access to: heated swimming pool, BBQ, Study room, Tutorial room, Gym, Student Lounge (including Playstation), Glasshouse Games Zone with cable TV, pool table and table tennis table, outdoor deck, café sunken deck lounge on site, frequent organized events including personal gym training sessions and tutorials.

What can I buy at the Village?

We offer Bedding and Kitchen packs which will be ready in your apartment upon your arrival. For more information, please visit our Optional Fees page.

Can I buy my own supplies externally?

Yes, you are more than welcome. When you arrive at RMIT Village, we will provide you with a welcome pack which includes a list of suppliers within walking distance from your apartment to get you on your feet for the first few weeks. These include supermarkets, department stores, pharmacies, mobile phone stores, etc. 

Please refer to the Village Rules for more regulations regarding electrical equipment such as heaters, electric blankets, etc.
